If a student has a grade of an F in any class or a GPA that falls below a 2.0, they will first be placed on the warning list. This allows students one week to improve their grades. Students on the warning list may continue to practice and participate in extracurricular activities. Middle school students on the warning list are required to attend ICU. Parents will be notified by phone and by mail if their student is on the warning list. Students are also informed by a note in their locker. If a student has an F in any class or a GPA that falls below a 2.0 for two consecutive weeks, they will be placed on the ineligible list. Students on the ineligible list may practice at their coach's discretion but are NOT allowed to participate in extracurricular activities for that week. Middle school and high school students who are ineligible are required to attend ICU. Parents will be notified by phone and by mail if their child is on the ineligible list. Students are also notified by a note in their locker. Parents are also encouraged to check their student's grades using the parent portal available at https://sis2.ddncampus.net/campus/portal/timber_lake.jsp or by accessing the school website at www.timberlakeschool.org and choosing the parent portal tab.

On September 24th, 2020 U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, announced that 367 schools across the nation were named 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools. Timber Lake Middle School is 1 of the 367 schools to have received this exemplary award. The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.
U.S. Secretary of Education, Becky Devos stated, “It’s a privilege to recognize the extraordinary work you do to meet students’ needs and prepare them for successful careers and meaningful lives.”
Timber Lake Middle School was excited and proud when nominated by the South Dakota Department of Education to join the esteemed community of National Blue Ribbon Schools. This is the second time Timber Lake School District has received this distinction, with Timber Lake High School being named a Blue Ribbon School in 2014.
As it takes a village to raise a child, this is not only a tribute to the Middle School Staff and students, but the entire Timber Lake School District staff and student body. This prestigious award is also a reflection of the positive and supportive parents and communities of our District which include: Timber Lake, Isabel, White Horse, Trail City, Black Foot, Promise, Firesteel, and Glencross. A special thanks to all of our partners including all of the local businesses and organizations within our communities and the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.
The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held virtually on November 12 and 13. A proper public celebration will be held locally once CDC Pandemic restrictions are lifted.
